Five in a row

In 2011 as many as five gorillas have been born at Apenheul. It's a world record! Mintha has had a baby in 2009, M’fugaji, and she is the only adult female gorilla who has not given birth this year.

The experienced mother Mandji gave birth to a little girl on January 10th. Her name is Iriki and she is the little sister of Mapasa, Mandji’s three-year-old son. Mandji is also a grandma, because her daughter Nemsi gave birth on June the 26th.

And Wimbé (2,5 years old) has also become a big brother. His mother Lobo gave birth to Faraja, a beautiful little girl, born on March 12th. Both Mandji and Lobo are experienced mothers but for Gyasi it was the first time to give birth on Febuary 23rd. Her daughter is called Tayari.

The father of all babies is Jambo. This impressive silverback is a young male of 17 years old, but he has already proven himself to be a great dad to his children Wimbé, Mapasa and M’fugaji.
